Be still and hear
The sounds today
Joy, songs, laughter,
Children at play.

Listen more closely,
Watch and pray.
Sounds draw near,
Calm comes your way.

Be still and know
Says God above.
Know I am here
It's you I love.

Now what's the rush?
Why such hurry?
You can't think clearly,
Your mind's all blurry.

Let's take our time,
We've got all day.
Trust me please
I'll show you the way.

Be still and know
And listen too.
I sent My Son
To die for you.

You Better Slow Down
Author: Unknown

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round,
or listened to rain slapping the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight,
or gazed at the sun fading into the night?

You better slow down, don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.

Do you run through each day on the fly,
When you ask "How are you?", do you hear the reply?
When the day is done, do you lie in your bed,
with the next hundred chores running through your head?

You better slow down, don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.

Ever told your child, we'll do it tomorrow,
and in your haste not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die,
'cause you never had time to call and say "hi"?

You better slow down, don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere,
you miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
it's like an unopened gift thrown away.
Life is not a race, so take it slower,
hear the music before the song is over.

Two Boxes
Author: Unknown

I have in my hands two boxes, which God gave me to hold.
He said, "Place all your sorrows in the black, And all your joys go in the gold."

I heeded His words, and in the two boxes
Both my joys and sorrows I stored.
But though the gold became heavier each day.
The black was as light as before.
With curiosity, I opened the black,
I wanted to find out why.
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole Which my sorrows had fallen out by.

I showed the hole to God, and mused aloud,
"I wonder where my sorrows could be."
He smiled a gentle smile at me."
"My child, they're all here with me."

I asked, "God, why give me two boxes?
Why the gold, and the black with the hole?"
"My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go."

Quiet Times
My mind's at rest. God says to me,
"Just do your best. Trust me for strength
To carry on
For I will help you
Sing your song."

Psalm 46:10
"Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."

Let nothing disturb thee;
Let nothing dismay thee;
All things pass;
God never changes.
Patience attains
All that it strives for.
St. Teresa de Cepeda

Patience is power;
with time and patience
the mulberry leaf becomes silk.
A Chinese Proverb

The key to everything is patience.
You get the chicken by hatching the egg,
not by smashing it.
Arnold H. Glasgow

Patience is the art of caring slowly.
John Ciardi

If you would know strength and patience,
welcome the company of trees.
Hal Borland

Face your deficiencies and acknowledge them;
but do not let them master you.
Let them teach you patience,
sweetness, insight...
When we do the best we can,
we never know what miracle
is wrought in our life,
or in the life of another.
Helen Keller

Need a Snow Day?

You are not responsible
for doing it all yourself,
right now.
Remember a happy,
peaceful time in your past.
Rest there.

Each moment has richness
that takes a lifetime to savor.
Set your own pace.
When someone is pushing you,
it's OK to tell them they're pushing.

Take nothing for granted:
watch water flow, the corn grow,
the leaves blow, your neighbor mow.

Taste your food.
God gives it to delight
as well as to nourish.

Notice the sun and the moon
as they rise and set.
They are remarkable
for their steady pattern
of movement, not their speed.

Quit planning how you're going
to use what you know,
learn, or possess.
God's gifts just are;
be grateful and their purpose
will be clear.

When you talk with someone,
don't think about
what you'll say next.
Thoughts will spring up
naturally if you let them.

Talk and play with children.
It will bring out the unhurried
little person inside you.

Create a place in your home...
at your work...in your heart...
where you can go
for quiet and recollection.

You deserve it.
Allow yourself time
to be lazy and unproductive.
Rest isn't luxury;
it's a necessity.
Listen to the wind blow.

It carries a message of yesterday,
tomorrow and now.
NOW counts.

Listen to the song of a bird;
the complete song.
Music and nature are gifts,
but only if you are willing to receive them.

Take time just to think.
Action is good and necessary,
but it's fruitful only
if we muse, ponder, and mull.

Make time for play,
the things you like to do.
Whatever your age,
your inner child needs re-creation.

Watch and listen to the night sky. It speaks.

Listen to the words you speak,
especially in prayer.

Learn to stand back and let others
take their turn as leaders.
There will always be new opportunities
for you to step out in front again.

The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

Ways to Reduce Stress

1. Pray
2. Go to bed on time.
3. Get up on time so you can start the day unhurried.
4. Say No to projects that won’t fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.
5. Delegate tasks to capable others.
6. Simplify and unclutter your life.
7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)
8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.
9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don’t lump the hard things all together.
10. Take one day at a time.
11. Separate worries from concerns .. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety . If you can’t do anything about a situation, forget it.
12. Live within your budget; don’t use credit cards for ordinary purchases.
13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.
14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.
15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.
16. Every night before bed, think of one thing you’re grateful for that you’ve never been grateful for before. GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU.
17. Get enough rest.
18. Eat right.
19 Get organized so everything has its place.
20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.
21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.
22. Every day, find time to be alone.
23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don’t wait until it’s time to go to bed to try and pray.
24. Make friends with Godly people.
25. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.
26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good ‘Thank you God.’
27. Laugh.
28. Laugh some more!
29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.
30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).
31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).
32. Sit on your ego.
33 Talk less; listen more.
34. Slow down.
35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.

Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17
